Brownfield has been behind the mic for countless big moments during his broadcasting career, which began as a student at Menlo College in 2013. At the NCAA DI level, Brownfield has handled play-by-play for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, softball, and women's volleyball.

As a broadcaster, Brian has been on the broadcast of two national championship games at the NAIA-level. In 2018 and 2019, he was on the broadcast crew for the Men's Soccer National Championship games on ESPN3, with play-by-play duties in 2019. Across all levels, he has been the voice of ten conference championship games across four sports, two national championship games, and one NCAA Volleyball Regional (Stanford, 2023).

Over the last two seasons (2022-23), Brian has been a fill-in on FoxSports AM 1280 for the Stockton Ports, calling 30 games for the Oakland Athletics California League affiliate.

Brian is the primary media relations contact for football at Stanford, in addition to holding sports information duties with the women's golf program. Brian also serves as the programming coordinator for the TreeCast, Stanford's first athletics podcast. He was hired at Stanford after spending nearly four years at Saint Mary's College, where he started as the Director of Communications before being promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. Brian was the primary media relations contact for men's basketball, indoor/beach volleyball, and softball for the Gaels, while also overseeing the entire athletic communications department. This included the hiring of a new graduate coordinator role, and the scheduling/training of all student workers.

Brian's role at Saint Mary's College expanded during his time as a Gael, adding voice-over and live-event hosting to his sports information and broadcasting roles. Brian handled voice-over work for Saint Mary's videos and promos, while also serving as the lead emcee for the Gael Award Show, Steadauto.com Car Drawing, and various team fundraising events.

As the lead men's basketball contact, Brian covered consecutive NCAA Tournament Second Round appearances for the Gaels as a No. 5 seed, and helped land Saint Mary's as a featured team through NCAA March Madness Confidential. With his help in creating content for Saint Mary's MBB social media channels, impressions and interactions increased by over 50% during the 2022-23 season.

Brian was hired by Saint Mary's College after working at his alma mater, Menlo College, where he was the Sports Information Coordinator for three years (2017-19). While at Menlo, he was named the Sheri Pine GSAC SID of the Year in 2019 for his efforts in media relations and broadcasting at Menlo and within the conference. Along with his traditional media relations duties, Brian also was the "Voice of the Oaks" on all home broadcasts.

During the 2017 summer, Brian served as the Broadcast/Media Relations Assistant for the Hagerstown Suns, A-level affiliate of the Washington Nationals in the South Atlantic League. While with the Suns, he served as the #2 broadcaster for all home games and assisted in the creation of game-day stat packs and lineup cards.

Brian graduated summa cum laude from Menlo College in December of 2016 with a BS in business management with a focus on sports management. In addition to his work in the classroom, he was awarded:
